Jack, which version of jaws is cutting off words in Vista? I was thinking they could have fixed this in version 9. Also, have you had a chance to switch to a "high performance" power profile yet? One last idea, from Jim, if nothing else fixes it how about buying Dec-talk access32? Or, yet one more, how about buying an external usb sound card? Unfortunately, Jaws cuts off the beginning of every word when using battery under vista. I have the max battery profile activated. I haven't had time to try another profile or replacing the audio drivers. I previously had a thinkpad X40 running XP, and there were no problems with Jaws 7. Unfortunately, just be prepared to return it if things don't work correctly with Jaws. That being said, I doubt most people have my experience using other laptops. I also have a Dell D620 for work with XP Pro and Jaws 8. It seems to work fine, excluding the fact that the machine reboots with no warning once in a while. I've only experienced this phenomenon with Dell, and that's why I am not a big fan (happens on my Dell desktop as well). jack ----- Original Message ----- From: Allan Wong <mailto:allan.wkf@xxxxxxxxx> To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Friday, December 21, 2007 10:33 AM Subject: Re: new recommended laptop hi, i'm not sure about others model, in Lenovo3000 series, the mouse is a touch pad type of mouse. since i'm not use mouse, i have disable the touch pad. ________________________________ Warmest Regards, Allan Wong <mailto:allan.wkf@xxxxxxxxx> ________________________________ ----- Original Message ----- From: Adrian Spratt <mailto:A.Spratt@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Friday, December 21, 2007 21:09 Subject: Re: new recommended laptop Hi, Allan. What about the joystick device that IBM/Lenovo substitutes for a mouse on its laptops? I find it gets in the way when I try to type "b" and the other keys in that area. ----- Original Message ----- From: Allan Wong hi, IBM Lenovo latest model already come with windows logo key. the minut i'm writing this email, i am using Lenovo3000 series, model Y4000. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------- Warmest Regards, Allan Wong ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------- ----- Original Message ----- From: Srinivasu To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Friday, December 21, 2007 18:48 Subject: RE: new recommended laptop I would say Lenovo, HP or Dell. I'm going at least on 2GB ram, hard-disk 120GB or more, duo core 2 CPU. I saw yesterday Acer, and I wish to ask whether someone here is using this ACER Laptop with Vista and Jaws 9? I'm open listening to another suggestions too that may give me the same results. I heard good things on HP laptops, LG, sonny, Lenovo.
