The long and the short is this msn 5 no longer works. Msn 6 will not =
work
on windows 9x with jaws use a 3rd messenger such as miranda or update to =
xp.

Hi folks
I know this subject has been talked to death on the list so a thousand=20
apologies for bringing it up, yet again. I have a friend who needs help =
but=20
isn't on this list so I felt the best coarse of action would be to ask =

and hopefully one of you can assist me.
Ok, my friend is using windows 98 Se, and JAWS 6.0, just upgraded to =
JAWS 6=20
yesterday. a couple of days before she upgraded, she was prompted by =
msn=20
to upgrade to 6.2 which she did.
At that time, she was using JAWS version 5.10, which by all the accounts =
I've heard does not seem to work under windows 98 with msn 6.2. It does =
with xp, but not with windows 98. What we want to do is to figure out =
if=20
it's in faact possible for her to role back to msn messenger 5 and still =
have things work again? When she couldn't read any of the windows in =
the=20
program, she uninstalled msn 6.2 via add/remove programs. Now I am told =
that there are some files left over, so msn really never gets removed, =
it=20
either re-installs itself on reboot, or the remnants of it are somehow=20
there so she couldn't
get rid of it after uninstalling it.
She didn't have a copy of it because msn automatically upgraded her to =
6.2. So, I downloaded the installer for msn 6.2 for windows 98 and sent =
it=20
to her as an attachment, and she installed it and it gave her an error=20
message. It said she was missing a resource. Just what resource we don't =
know yet.
So, this is wear we are stuck. Is it in fact possible to remove what's =
left=20
of msn 6.2 and go back to msn 5 that she was using before? or will msn=20
prompt her to upgrade to 6.2 before she can sign in? i know some xp =
users=20
were prompted to upgrade which I did, but I'm not sure if this thing is=20
operating system specific. Another thought I have is, she could =
possibly=20
use miranda IM instead, but again I do not know how well the scripts =
work=20
with JAWS 6 with 98 as I have xp here. So if any of you guys have any=20
information at all to pass along, you can either contact me here or=20
