Will that work for the demo?

hi yardbird,
if you already have prier version of jaws 8.0 install on your system and you run the setup package, it will give you an update option. but if your system does not have any previous release of jaws 8.0 installed, it will run as a full installation.

hope this helps.

Regards,
Allan Wong

I just downloaded and installed the update using Allan's link, and what
installed said it was an update, not a full program, and it doesn't seem to have wiped out my settings or anything of the sort, at least so far as I can tell. This entire thread is totally confusing to me, and I'm just glad Allan
provided that direct link and that it all seemed to go without a hitch for
me. Oh, well.

hi. Ok,Jim, what you say makes total sense. but get this. i've
heard that Eric Damery of FS is saying to fix the problem with the is
magic running script, what you do is to go into your user settings
folder and delete default.jsb and default.jss and that should clear
the problem up. What I'm wondering is, wouldn't that make JAWS
basically unusable?
I mean if you're deleting the default script? I only know the *very*
basics of working with scripts, so I definitely do not want to render
this instalation of JAWS unusable. Believe me, I've learned to be
careful through trial and error. Mostly error and not so much trial, smile.
I just wanna make absolutely, positively sure I'm understanding this
before I continue.

hi chris you are making this harder then it has to be.
simply do this.
1. go to your setting folder for jaws and back it up some where.
to do a full uninstall.
3. reinstall jaws.
4. put your settings back.
problem solved.
should take at the most 15 menits.

hi. well, it looks like it's gonna be an uninstall for me.
I ran the installer for 8.0 build 1163 just a few minutes ago and it
went through it's little routine, click, cclick, click.
Then I received a message telling me that the product was already
installed. to modify or remove it, go to add/remove programs in
control pannel. Ok so I did that. The only option I was given was
remove. No modify, or repair, just remove. I had the choice to just
remove JAWS, or remove JAWS and shared components. Through
experience, I learned that it is most definitely not! a good idea to
remove shared components, especially if you have multiple versions of
JAWS and other access products on your machine, which I do.
So to fix 8.0 and get it back to some sense of real normalcy, it
looks like uninstalling 8.0 is my only option. I did write fs tech
support in hopes they would be able to come up with some other
solution. I just don't wanna have to do this because it would mean a
whole lot of configuring for me and I've got better things to do with
my life then try and fix a broken screenreader that should be working
in the first damn place.
Sorry, y'all, but I just wish fs would look at all the options before
putting their product out. what if someone like me hadn't ran the
previous update? I wonder if they'd be just as screwed as me. Just
really frustrated now.
