large attachments

I have been trying to send a large attachment over the past three days and when
the recepient opens it they get an error message. The people I am sending it
to are sighted and using conventional mouse commands. The file name I am using
is:
c:\my documents\(name of document).doc
I have sent large attachments before and am quite befuddled over the whole
