Dave, the more I think about it, I'm pretty sure when I did this jaws + windows + F4 keystroke I probably did restart Jaws and that's when I noticed the changes. I probably miswrote earlier. Restarting Jaws is so automatic I guess I managed to forget I had even done it.
I have a desktop with XP and Jaws 12. When this keystroke combo killed Jaws I heard a cute sound effect like a brzzap on a cartoon. I think I've got everything back to normal now post-crash except the Start Menu. If anyone knows where the Start Menu appearance can be customized, if at all, in XP please let me know as it may have gone back to some default or its placement on the screen got slightly changed.

Michael, If you're using a laptop, you may have accidentally used the Fn (Function) key and adjusted your screen settings. Insert+Windows+F4 should have definitely shut down JAWS 11 or 12. Don't know if it works on older versions, or not. The first thing I noticed was it changed the insert to overwrite characters instead of pushing them to the right, I was able to get this back. Secondly, the Jaws voice suddenly got very low and slow and the key interrupt was flipped from my preference, I was able to get this back to normal with a couple of restarts. The only thing I haven't been able to recover from yet are that it changed the visual appearance of my desktop and start menu slightly, moving a few desktop items a bit to the left partly off the screen I think and adding a visually distracting sidebar with a Microsoft logo to the start menu column. This probably isn't really a topic of much interest to the list, but if anyone has any ideas here they can write me off-list. I checked the screen resolution and it didn't seem to have changed. Probably not a great idea to try out key combinations you don't know what they do. Had a rare moment of curiosity. Michael MA@xxxxxxxxxxx
