Okay, Now we're getting a little bit off topic.

No... but I already know that all items are selected because the previous lines in the dialog box said so. I don't see the confusion here. They are all selected unless you unselect them.

Gene,
I didn't say that Jaws doesn't speak that announcement. sure, it says that
to me. , too-- Jaws is reading that message. But then, if you actually
traverse the list with your arrow key, I think you'll find that Jaws speaks
only the items, without announcing that they're accompanied by check boxes
and what the state of each checkbox is. Is it different for you?

But when mine comes up it says "Uncheck the items you don't want installed.". So that is quite clear to me.

auto Updates can also be configured so that they appear listed in your
system tray and can be reviewed and selected/deselected before download
and
install.

This is what I've done, as I'm not technically astute enough to want to
spend time at the Microsoft site trying to understand which updates do
what
and which might be hazardous to my computing health with Jaws.

A note: if you use this option, Jaws doesn't report that the items listed
have check boxes, and whether they're checked or unchecked. So you should
know that all items are checked by default, and as you arrow through the
you
can hit the space bar to deselect prior to pressing the download button.

Would be nice if someone, maybe FS, would write a script to make those
item
states visible/audible.

I never have my system do any automatic updates as I like to be in control of what is being put onto my computer. IN case you do not know this, automatic updates can be disabled in control panel - at least they can be for windows 2k and I think this is the same in xp. When I have a fresh install of windows, this is one of the first things I do - disable autonatic updates. I rather go to the windows update page where I can select and deselect what updates are suggested for my computer.

Cheers,

Doris

That may be a little tougher to avoid than you think. Automatic updates
may do the update without warning you.

Also, there is nothing that I see that would force a current jaws 5.x
user to upgrade internet Explorer if it really wasn't supported by jaws.

Let's just wait until IE 7.0 is out in public beta and reports from the
courageous daring to install beta software come in. <g>

Doris

If Microsoft makes a major change in Internet Explorer, which is the
only way 5.0 wouldn't be able to run with it, that isn't the fault of
FS. In fact, there isn't much FS can do about it. I mean, why would they
do a major re-write on a version that is to generations out of date?

People on the list
I was given this information,
I don't know how accreted this is, but I will find out tomorrow, when I
call freedomscientific .
I was told that those of us who have Jaws 5.0
when the next version of Jaws 7.0 comes out, that freedomscientific will
not support with Jaws 5.0 the next version of inter net explorer.
I hope this is not true, they want every body to upgrade to 7.0
If they do this, I hope the blind people get a class action law suit.
Thanks from Joseph.
