That's not entirely true. I make changes to my myspace page everyday and
don't encounter the captia. I was told by another my space user that the
captia will come up if you make a bunch of changes in a very short amount of
time. So while it may come up, it certainly doesn't come up with every
change of a page.

Hi Slade,
Yes. I have also tried contacting the MySpace folks regarding accessible
CAPTCHAs, and they have also chosen to ignore me. Maybe it is time for a
blog post on the journal about it. Grrr!

Well, I was using Myspace fairly easy then folks started complaining of
spam
so now every time you make changes the CAPTCHA appears. I've tried
contacting them but nothing.

The term is "image-recognition CAPTCHA".
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captcha for an overview.
See http://www.captcha.net/ for research into CAPTCHAs.
The whole purpose of a CAPTCHA is to create a problem that only humans
can
solve in order to defeat automated spamming attacks. If a screen reader
could read a CAPTCHA, then so could a hostile program.
Many sites provide alternatives to image-recognition CAPTCHAs. Sometimes
you might be asked to listen to an audio CAPTCHA or solve a written
problem (e.g. enter the answer to 2 + 2). These aren't a complete
solution, since audio CAPTCHAs can be hard to hear and those with
learning
disabilities or language barriers could struggle with problem-solving.
Many more sites offer a contact form, email address, or telephone number
to use in order to contact an administrator who can give you access. If
there isn't one specified as an alternative to the CAPTCHA, look for
webmaster contact details or general contact details.
If you can't find details and it's an important site, no harm in letting
us know what that site is so we can have a look too.

hey all,
sorry I don't know the term to describe these spam filters, although I
guess I understand as to why some sites have these boxes. Anyway, is
there a jaws command or trick to getting the text read?
I've tried jaws cursor and even attempted the websites page information
yet nothing works.
And many of these websites don't have the audio option in case visually
impaired folks can't see the text. Basically, is there a way around
these boxes?
Thanks,
