Well, it sure isn't fags and cigarettes, isn't it? A crack in any
language is, well, a crack. I know you're trying to figure out
different meanings of the word, but a crack for software is what it is,
a crack. An illegal way of gaining access to it for installation and
usage.
I don't think the guy was asking if he could have a crack at installing
JAWS, but he was asking for a cracked copy.

I've just read back through this thread to the original post and
want to
know one thing. Does anyone who has posted since the original
person know
the meaning of the phrase "to have (a) crack of?" I certainly
don't. Why
hasn't anyone asked the poster to look in his bilingual dictionary
(Vietnamese/English, I'm guessing) and offer another synonym for the
word he
was trying to express? How did people jump to the notion that he
was asking
for help with pirated software? I take the precaution here of
mentioning
that I am *not* asking any of this sarcastically. Please
understand. If I
get flamed one more time this week, I'm going to have to get my
psychiatrist
to increase my daily dosage of antipsychotic medication. Thanks.

I guess I'm not familiar with the language describing pirated
software.
    Can
we call it a learning deficiency?
