Let me see if I can help here.

The plus key is used to turn *off* forms mode. Actually, what the plus key 
is doing is putting you back in teh virtual buffer. To get into forms 
mode, you hit enter on a form field. You would exit forms mode on one of 
the following ways:

1. Hitting the plus key. Again, this puts you back into the virtual 
buffer, which requires going out of forms mode.

2. Hitting enter on a submit button or in a dialog where there is a 
default-action submission button.

3. Hitting spacebar on a form submission button.

I can't think of any other ways, short of exiting I.e., to exit forms 
mode. That doesn't mean there aren't other ways, but these are at least 
the main ones.
