To which I add, if Jaws doesn't *say* "forms mode," then you're not in forms 
mode, isn't that so?

As someone mentioned earlier today, and I don't mean to come across
cocky or snooty or anything, sometimes the easiest way to find out
something like that is to try it; if you can't enter stuff, you're not
in Forms Mode.
