Hi Hank

The following is from an e-mail by Lennie who informed the list about the
e-mail dictionary.

It should definitely help you:

This information was found in the Bits and Bytes Section of The Connection, the newsletter for the Hadley School for the Blind, Spring issue. I thought
some of you might find it useful.

This is written by Linn Sorge, Hadley Instructor.

"Have you ever wished for a quick and accessible dictionary and other
word information using email?" Follow these instructions and you will have
all the information you need. Once more, the information you request is
usually emailed back to you within a minute or two, sometimes within
seconds. Simply send an email message to wsmith@xxxxxxxxxxxxx and receive
lots of interesting answers.

Here's how it works:

You begin by typing the email address for this service into the "to" field. Then you tab to the subject field and write a few words as described below.
You can use all lower case letters. Do not write anything at all in the
edit field or main body of the message. Here are the details:

Dictionary by Email

To find the definition of a word, tab to the subject field. Type the word
define followed by a space.

Type the word you want defined. Then, send the message.

Thesaurus by Email:

To find synonyms of a word, tab to the subject field. Type the word synonym followed by a s pace. Type the word for which you want synonyms. Then,
send the message.

Acronym by Email

To unscramble an acronym, tab to the subject field. Type the word acronym
followed by a space. Type the acronym whose expansion you want to find.
Then, send the message.

Anagrams by Email

To find anagrams, tab to the subject field. Type the word anagram followed by a space. Next, type the word whose anagrams you want to find. Send the
message.

Remember: All commands should be typed in the subject field and emailed to

wsmith@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx Then, the learning and fun will begin.

For more details, go to www.wordsmith.org.

Hello

How does one get in contact with this e-mail dictionary so I can also send
e-mails to find out definitions of different words? If someone can please
let me know, I would be much appreciative. Thanks.

Hi Linda,

No, I don't know what you just read, but what it's supposed to mean is
that
you send a blank email, in whose subject line you type the command
"define,"
without the quotes, of course, then a space, then the word you want to see
a
definition for.

Example: define harmony

See? It's just a typical type of command you send to a listserv or
something of that sort. First comes the request for what action you want
performed (define), then a space, then the word you want defined.

Then, without typing anything in the message area, just send the message.

Hope this helps. Happy New year.

Hi,

I'm a bit confused on how to use this. You type the word in the subject
and
it tells you "define" and then space. So does this mean I type the word
I'm
looking for and then just space?
