Hi Chip,Just in case you might be interested, I have a full keyboard that plugs
into a USB port on my Dell Inspire 1100. It works just like using my desktop
keyboard. My only complaint is that is extra bulk when taking a trip with my
laptop.

I think you'll need to use jaws set to desktop keyboard for this even to work
(that is, the insert key being the jaws key).

I'd guess though that's not what's causing your jaws or your laptop to crash.
Some of the external numeric keypads don't support multi-key combinations
(that is, 2 keys pressed together at once).

If setting jaws back to desktop layout doesn't solve your issue, then I'd
guess you were unlucky enough to get one of these numeric pads that don't
support modifier keys.

You could try and contact the manufacturer to ask if this guess is correct.
I'm using jaws at home on a laptop with a usb keypad, so I know it can be done
(and I have my jaws keyboard set to desktop). Unfortunately, you can't buy the
brand of keypad I'm using, but perhaps others here can recommend specific
external usb keypads if this turns out to be the problem.

the usb port in the back of the laptop. Then when I hit the num key on the ten
key it says num lock on, num lock off after that I tried the jaws key on the
ten key and jaws stops talking and I have to exit jaws and restart.

    Can anyone help?
