Is it possible that you have more than one sent mailbox?

Rebecca,
it gets even more curiouser and curiouser. I checked my setting in the
options and the save a copy in the sent items box was checked. So I
unchecked and sent a test message, and no message copy showed up in the sent
items folder. So I went to the options again and checked the box that said
save a copy of the message in the sent items folder. I sent another test
message and nothing showed up in the sent items folder. I turned the
computer off and on a couple of times and still no copy of the sent message
was saved in the sent items folder.
It simply just does not work any more.
I hope it fixes itself. In the meantime I guess I can be sure I sent a
message by sending a copy of the message to myself by putting my email
address in the bcc field.
Thanks for the heads up, even though it did not work for me.
