I think there are some good points in the message below. I do agree that silly inquiries like, "Has FS released version 5.1 yet," is a waste of everyone's time and bandwidth. When, however, Freedom Scientific promises something, like Citrix support, during the fourth quarter of 2003, then the first quarter of 2004, then nothing happens (and we are in the midst of the third quarter of 2004), commentary is worthwhile. For some of us, Citrix support is crucial. For none of us were the sound manager bells and whistles crucial. JAWS is absolutely the only word processor for MS Word, the recognition of tables, colors, fonts, track changes, margin settings, style changes and the like being unavailable anywhere else (and certain other screen readers would do well to add these crucial features), but the other guys have Citrix and JAWS doesn't. We shouldn't have to run two screen readers to do our jobs (I don't have two word processors), and I think Freedom Scientific needs to be taken to task for errors in its priorities. If messages like that below prompt enough people to contact Freedom Scientific (just posting here won't do it), then maybe the next round of enhancements will be substantive. By the way, not all the 5.0 enhancements were mere bells and whistles. The bookmarking feature in Internet Explorer, for example, was definitely a worthwhile enhancement. For example at the 2002 ACB convension I was told by Eric D that version = 5 would have Citrix support but when it came out of course we know it did = not. If we as programmers and data base entry persons are to = continue to function in the world we need real meat and potatos fixes not what freedom has been producing lately.
