Judith,

I can't tell you how that bullet got there, but here's an old post
on how to turn off automatic bullet lists and automatic numbered lists
just in case you were inadvertently doing something that Word thought
you wanted a bullet placed in the document. I'm running Word 2000 and
needed to turn off automatic numbered lists here and the tip worked
for me.

In Word:
"1. open the tools menu
2. press ENTER on autocorrect
3. CTRL-TAB to "autoformat as you type" property sheet (be careful,
there is
an autoformat property sheet too.)
4. uncheck the "automatic bulleted lists" and "automatic numbered
lists"
options
5. press ENTER"

    Hope this helps,
Margaret

This sounds good but I didn't press alt O and go through that list.
There
must be some other way it gets there.
