You mean that percentage of *all* the email you receive? Or do you just
mean emails received from this listserv?

Thanks.

Only about 50-60 percent of my incoming E Mail was being announced has
having an attachment. Tom

Okay. Here's something interesting. As I received this post in my own
Inbox, it was *not* announced to have an attachment. And that despite the
fact that there's an AVG announcement.

Just an interesting variable. Also, I wonder if others on the list do
have
Jaws seeing an attachment symbol, even though I don't. That would be
interesting to know. For comparison, I'm using OE 6, Windows XP Home w/SP
2, and Jaws 7.0.

Well, as I said, it doesn't do this to my email when I send it to myself, and no correspondent of mine has mention anything about it. I will look now to see if the attachment thing happens when this reply posts.

If turning off the announcement worked for you, though, I'm glad. I don't
personally have a problem with this thing, though. I know that if a
message
on one of my lists says it has an attachment, it probably doesn't, and
when
other incoming mail says it's got an attachment, I just check to see. And
I
like the reassurance effect of broadcasting that I'm using an antivirus
program. Even so, I'm curious about how this all works, even if idly
curious. Now I'll send the reply, and see how it appears on the list.

The AVG certification apparently does cause the erroneous attachment
announcement because now that several list members including myself have
turned it off we are no longer getting the attachment message when there
is
none. Tom

I missed some of this thread. I hope someone will clarify. Has it been
claimed that the AVG notice causes Outlook Express or other mail programs
to
display an attachment symbol on incoming email, which Jaws then reports,
making the recipient think they have received a file attachment, or at
least
that they have to check to make sure whether they have or not?

Because if so, I just want to describe my own experience with this.
While
I, like a lot of us, often am told by Jaws (which is not malfunctioning,
only noting the paper clip symbol, as it should) that there are
attachments
where there actually aren't any, this doesn't happen to me because of the
AVG notice. note that if you type the product name all upper case, as
is
proper, it reads as it should instead of the incoherent mumble that the
lower case version produces. Just to confirm that things were still
working
this way for me, I sent myself a test email a moment ago, and it arrived
with the usual AVG notice, but didn't announce itself as bearing a file
attachment.

Just for comparison, if that was the original complaint. If it's only
that
some people are annoyed to have the AVG message display, as they might
feel
annoyed by someone's email signature lines, then that's another matter,
about which I don't have any strong feelings. I just want to make clear
that the AVG message isn't causing the file attachment symbol to appear
on
email I send out scanned by AVG Free Edition.

Just for the record, I made the changes and do not get a message about
AVG
not being fully functional. I am using JAWS 7.1 and XP.

Thanks for the tip. I never knew how to disable that feature.

Note: this does not disable your virus scanner in any way. The only thing it does is turn off the notice that your emails have been scanned by AVG anti virus.

1. Open AVG, tab once to the control center button and tap space bar.
2. Use alt plus V to open the view menu and down arrow to the components
submenu icon and then tap enter.
3. Down arrow to the email scanner icon and then tap enter.
4. Tab to the configure button and then tap enter.
5. Tab to and uncheck the two Certify mail checkboxes.
6. Now tab to the OK button and enter and then tab to the OK button
again
and enter. This should have eliminated the problem and you now can close
AVG
Free with alt plus F4.
