ann's message about google

You know yesterday Ann Bern told us that to reduce the clutter on Google you can type
www.google.com/ie
It is great. You get ten links per page and no junk. How does this work? I tried typing ?ie after yahoo and id didn't work. I can't seem to find anything on how it works.
