On-list! Yes, Windows shortcut F5 also refreshes a page, but I believe it operates differently with a very different result, depending on the webpage. If you are on a secure website and you've submitted data, pressing F5 may bring up a warning that you will lose all that data. I've never had that experience with insert-escape, which I think limits its role to making the page accessible to JAWS again. I've never been warned about losing data with insert-escape, nor have I lost any. Someone with more expertise may either explain or correct me.

Note. By "insert," I mean the JAWS key.

Off list. I always use plain F5.

Troy,

Glad I'm not the only one. To avoid confusion, I believe you're using insert-escape. Insert-F5 brings up a list of form fields, right?

That's happened to me as well, that is having to refresh the screen with insert-f5 to bring up the next page. I'm using Jaws 9 right now but I believe it's occurred with other versions as well because this has been a longterm thing with me.

Often in these situations, which I've encountered only with JAWS 10, I find pressing insert-escape to refresh the page solves the problem. I haven't checked with a sighted person, but it's as if JAWS stays stuck on the page with the submit button and doesn't detect the next page without this little boost.

Hi,

A friend and I were on the phone, each on our own computers, trying to fill out a form on the McGill University Alumni web site. The form wanted user name and password, and then had a submit button. When I activated the submit button by tab plus spacebar or by enter enter, I was taken to the next page. But my friend kept going in circles. She activated the submit button and JAWS indicated it was loading a new page, but actually it just reloaded the form page. We tried numerous times, and she couldn't get hers to work. Using the B key, we did verify that JAWS did recognize "submit" as a button.

Any ideas about what might be going wrong? She has JAWS version 8 and I have 10.

Thanks,
Emily
