Word problem

Somebody, please help
I have installed the demo version of "Open Book" on my laptop last night.
I am using XP Home and Microsoft Word 2000 and Jaws 8.
All of a sudden today, Word does not "open" and none of my files with .doc
extensions that should open in Word, "opens". In fact everything freezes.
There also is no speech.
My only solution is to take out the battery of my laptop and disconnect the
power!
Excel does however responds as normal.
Any explanation or advise will be much appreciated.
