Hi Yardbird,
My understanding is that Window Eyes 6.0 has full funcionability of all
office 2003 programs and has far better office support than JAWS does. I
can't verify this since I don't run WE here. As for why FS doesn't work
harder on office support only they can say I guess. Perhaps they will have
better support for Office 2007 than they have for 2003? Let's hope so.

Well, I certainly wish I understood what prevents them from enabling full
access to these Office features, apart from some mysterious moral corporate

It's just one more place that FS has dropped the ball. Office gets less
accessible with every version and all FS does is say we now support the
latest Live messenger or some other trivial program like that for the last 3
versions. JAWS stands for Job Access With Speech. Seems to me that FS
would do there most to make sure we could use as much as office as possible
to keep pace with sighted people at work. I know from experience that isn't
going to happen with the way FS is supporting office currently.

For this very reason, I reverted to my old Word 2000 with its traditional,
simple to use Thesaurus, which works easily for me and which I know how to
navigate easy as pie. At this juncture, someone's likely to suggest one or
another different online or free thesaurus applets, so I'll just say thanks
but Word 2000 is working just fine for me, and meets my vocabulary needs in
the way that helps me perfectly.Once you learn how to use it, it's structure
just like certain traditional print Thesauruses, which rely on your
recognizing the various shadings of a word so you can choose a direction to
go in to look for alternatives. So if Word never again comes up with a
similarly usable thesaurus without bells and whistles and links of all
sorts, I'll stick with my Model A Word 2000, and if that eventually becomes
obsolete after the change to Vista or something, I'll resort to online sites
like dictionary.com and Merriam Webster.com.
Just a personal vent, I guess. But you aren't the only one who's flummoxed
by the Word 2003 thesaurus hassle. Again, the function and the linguistic
structure of the one I use suits me to a T, so I am not looking for any free
pop-up applets. I'm using "pop-up" to mean what we used to call a TSR
(terminate and stay resident) program under DOS. which one of those little
freebies reminds me of.

while you can get to the synonyms list with the application key, this barely
gives you any words to choose from. It's nothing compared to what the
thesaurus gives. I've been told that the thesaurus isn't very accessible
with word 2003 though.

Thanks for the information. After messing around with it, I found
that if I hit the applications key and arrow down or strike the Y key
the thesaurus comes up and a list of possible words.
