Judith,
I'm not sure you're understanding that what you're accessing this way is
simply not what the thesaurus is. That first bunch of words, from what has
been explained by others here, is only a list of suggested synonyms related
to one, and only one, sense of the word. What you're missing is being able
to first get a short list of all the various uses of the word you are
looking at-- it could be the noun form, the verb form, and it could be one
of several different *general* meanings. The next step in the thesaurus is
to choose one of those first possibilities, *then* get into a list that
offers actual alternatives for just that usage of the word. This is how this
thesaurus is meant to work, and you aren't even seeing most of it. Just
hoping to clarify. If you were to somehow get access to the Word 2000
thesaurus, which is totally navigable with nothing more than your arrow and
tab keys, with no mystery about it, and someone explained what was going on,
you'd quickly see that you've never actually used the thesaurus as it's
meant to be used.

I just wanted to say that I used the thesaurus earlier but pressed the
applications button and got all the synonyms or word definitions for the
word that was highlighted. Thanks for the applications key tip.
