Yes, many things from OE can be ported, such as messages, accounts and contact
lists, but I believe that the rules can not be ported at all, and for your
case, the only solution is to ask for sighted assistance for the rules creation.
Note: for the contact list, I exported a comma separated value (CSV) from OE.
Here in windows mail, I couldn't use that because here the all columns, such as
first name, last name, email, etc, were treated as only a single column. I
couldn't made the proper mapping between the columns, and therefore I build up
my contact list from scratch using my messages in my inbox (not that hard:
right click and add sender to address book)
If you want to configure WM in future, I recommend to export the contact list
in other formats too, such as WAB,etc.

Unfortunately, I have a 64-bit Windows 7 system, so the message rules problem
might be a show stopper for me since I depend on those rules to filter my
messages into folders for each list. I'm still not clear about what's
happening with the check boxes on 64-bit systems though. I'm wondering if JAWS
can see the check boxes at all and speak their checked or unchecked state. I
know that many Outlook Express settings can be transferred from one computer to
another, but I don't know if that's true with message rules. If so, I might be
able to port my existing rules over to the Windows 7 system. Once I create
some recovery disks for my Windows 7 system and create a restore point, I just
may take my chances and give Windows Mail a try.

I think the problem with the message rules is only within 64-bit machines.
Mine is 32-bit, and I could create my message rules the same as OE without a
hitch.
The issue of the automatic focus switch is a matter of personal taste; I
think it's not avoidable. Now I usually use ctrl + j and ctrl + u (just the
same as OE) for moving around the folders containing unread messages.
It is mostly like a name change to windows mail. Jaws (11) sometimes
mistakenly call it Outlook Express!
One improvement that I was expecting over OE is the addition of the
language feature to its editor, I.e. when I change the keybord layout language,
there should be a tag which lets Jaws reads the messages with its true
language. Anyway this is also similar as OE.
To sum up, no problem so far.

At some point, I will probably try the Windows Mail configuration on my
Windows 7 system. I hope you find a way to solve the focus change problem.
Have you found any other problems with Windows Mail on your Windows 7 system?
It has been stated on this list that message rules creation can't be done
because of problems with the check boxes in the rules creation dialog. Have
you tried to create message rules in Windows Mail?

So far so good! This might be useful for folks avoiding upgrade to 7
because of the email client issue.
One difference to OE: when navigating in the folder view pane, for each
folder that receives focus, if that contains any message, the focus switches
automatically to the message list of the folder. Any suggestions on how to
disable this feature or maybe tame it down for better utilization?
