Windows Vista

Hopenobody minds but I'd like to state a few problems I'm having with Vista, in a hope that other JAWS users have solved them. The answers will also help others on the lst who are upgrading.

First, could soembody send a reminder of what we should do when installing JAWS on Vista. I've followed the guidelines off the JAWS web site but think somebody on the list mentioned additional things to do.

In several dialogue boxes with lists, I get pings like I am at the bottom or top of the list. For those who have used bearshare with JAWS 8, it is a similar problem to that. The speed of how quick you move around seems to make a difference as to whether this problem occurs or not.

Secondly, I've discovered you can't use Windows Mail with Hotmail or other HTTP email services.

I've discovered Windows Live Mail Desktop Beta which works quite well except for a few issues.

No matter what I do, JAWS always forgets my settings for this program. I had to create a new config file for it. JAWS says graphic at the start of each line in my list of messages (I assume this is the graphic of the closed or open envelope). If I then use the verbocity dialogue to switch off graphics, it works fine and it doesn't say graphic everytime. But this is obviousely only temparary and I can't find the same option in the configuration manager, other than under HTML, graphics settings. But they don't seem to make any difference.

Any advice people have picked up regarding Vista is appreciated from a JAWS perspective.

I would like to say, I don't regret upgrading though and find the computer is much faster, and once JAWS is working right with everything, I think it's great.

Peter

Subject: Re: Flash Player

I'm guessing you mean the browser plugin not the standalone player.

Adobe claim the Flash plugin supports JAWS in Internet Explorer and Freedom Scientific claim JAWS supports it. The Adobe Flash plugin works okayish with JAWS in Internet Explorer, but not Firefox thanks to Adobe's failure to support software choice among the visually impaired. However, a lot of Flash content does not use the accessibility features provided by the Flash plugin. See also (among many possible resources):
