For me personally I found Windows 7 64bit didn't run as well as 32bit and
have reverted back. I have 4GB of ram which I think is the suggested minimum
for 64bit. As I understand it though unless your software is 64bit you can
actually find a speed reduction, not an increase. That was a couple of years
though and I'm sure software is moving on now since most new computers have
windows 64bit installed.

Hello Chris, many thanks for your answer. I will bear this in mind when
ever I decide to get a new computer in the future. If I remember rightly
although this was sometime ago so I don't know where it stands now that
you got a 64 bit OS not sure which one though but you changed back to 32
bit because Jaws was having issues. If you can remember what were the
problems at the time and do you know if they are fixed?
Thanks

Hi all.
A 64 bit operating system is said to be faster because it can handle more
processor instructions in one go. It's also said to be faster because
unlike 32 bit it will use as much RAM as you have on your system, whereas
32 bit can only handle up to 4 GB (but never exactly that amount) of
RAM.J
Hope this helps.

Hi someone mentioned 32 bit. I know I've asked this before but I still
don't really understand what it means. Could someone explain to me what
the difference between the 32 bit and the 64 bit. Is the 64 bit ment to
be faster or something like that.
Thanks

Hi, I've used Windows 7 on a range of PCs and compared to XP and Vista
I do find Windows 7 quicker in many ways. How long have you been using
it because for the first week or so it does optimise itself according
to what you do etc and does speed up quite a lot in my experience.

Hi,
Was just curious if any of you Windows 7 users have noticed any
differences
in speed of the operating system compared to Windows XP.
I am using a p4 3.2 GHz and 4 GB RAM and to me Windows 7 is a little
slower
than XP when booting. Haven't used it for that long, but we'll see
how I
like it.
