Re: Winamp and Jaws

Yardbird,

Just be sure when installing Winamp to uncheck Modern Skin Support so that Winamp will use the Classic interface that works with JAWS.

Chris,
Thanks. I read your similar comments earlier, but I got confused about
which versions of Winamp and which versions of jaws were being talked about.
I think I just read the message too fast. And I do understand what you say
about the Winamp updates having been about functional program changes and
not changes to the the interface. Would that more software developers would
make it so easy for us!

okay. Winamp will be a project for me to get into now. Thanks for all the
help and the patient explanation.

As I said previously, all versions of JAWS, from 4.51 on to 7.10 have
full support for Winamp, including the current version, 5.31. and
until something drasticly changes with the interface, I'm going on
the assumption that all future versions will work. Remember, when a
new version of Winamp is released, they usually only make changes
that affect the performance of the program from the inside, and they
usually leave the interface we use for screenreaders alone. So you
can be confident that when you download a new version, it will just
work as it's supposed to. Also, you should, in theory, be able to
install a new version of Winamp right over the top of your existing
version. In fact, if you uninstall it, any changes you make will
probably be lost, so Nullsoft/AOL have actually, made the upgrade
path very easy. So, go download that new version, play with it and
hit insert plus h and get to know those key commands.

Good luck!

Chris,
Thanks for the link. Just to clarify, is the current version that I'd be
downloading one of those for which Jaws scripts do exist? That wasn't
clear
to me. I guess because I don't know the release number of the current
version of Winamp. If it matters, I'm using Jaws 7.0.

Yes that's right Dan. JAWS has support for Winamp built in if you're using version 4.51 and up to 7.10. If you get stuck, hit insert plus h, and a list of key commands will come up. pressing enter on the name of the command, performs that action I.E. If you press enter onplay, the file will start playing. press enter on stop, the file will stop.

You should be able to get the most recent version from

http://download.nullsoft.com/winamp/client/winamp531_full.exe

That's a direct link to download the file.

Hope that helps.
