Where is there a full JAWS mannuel or documentation that has everything instead of me having to download a fsdn guide, a quickstart guide, a documentation to every separate feature of JAWS7.1pro! I just want one documentation that explains jaws explains everything you can possibly think of! Even FSDN quickstart FSDN JAWS and all that and every feature that is in jaws in windows put together!
Thanks! again in advance

Yes. I have legacy internet support turned on all the time for a few reasons:

1. When navigating a few web pages like Freedom Scientific's, I do a shift plus h to move to the last heading. That brings me right to the jaws info. Then I press tab, but the first time, the heading is spoken. If I shift tab or tab and shift tab back and forth once I'm there, it doesn't do it. But It still adds a few seconds on to the time it takes me to do things.

2. On other sites, things don't have blank lines between them. I prefer to have blank lines because I often use the Control down arrow keys to jump around in small increments.

3. In MSN Hotmail, I used to be able to get right to the check boxes that selected emails to perform actions on by using the MoveToFirstField script. Now, with legacy support off, it won't do that. Instead, it takes me to the search edit field. Also, the first links used to be the new and delete links, which are somewhere berried in the middle of the page. With legacy support off, I must search for these links. Is it something to do with what jaws thinks the tab order of the page is?

Legacy support has solved all of these problems, for now. Until they fix it, I will keep using legacy support.

Yes! enabling legacy support causes JAWS 7.1 to display html tables as it did in 7.0, rather than as in 7.1 without legacy support. I was going to explore the Document Presentation options, to address this. But, now, I think I'm just going to rely on legacy support, until such time as I find an actual (not potential) problem with it.

Thanks, Debbie; that did the trick.

I had previously read the warning that, with legacy support enabled, some web features might not work properly. But, as you suggested, I can't find any description of which features, etc. I rather suspect legacy support may resolve some other web behaviors (differences between 7.1 and 7.0) that are annoying me. I wasn't going to play with legacy support, because of the warnings. But, now, I think I may just go ahead and use it by default, until and unless I find a situation where it does create a problem (I haven't found any, as yet, and I've found this (and possibly other situations where it actually help.) Sounds reasonable?

Okay Dana, I think I can tell you how to get it back.
But I have heard this isn't a good idea to do on a permanent basis.
Please don't ask me to explain why because nobody ever really explains it,
they just say it's not a good idea, smile.
But...with that said.
Go to configuration manager in IE and go to the HTML options, misc. page.
Check the checkbox for use legacy support.
Save your changes, y ou might need to restart jaws.
See if that gives you the blank line back. It seemed to for me.
I will dig around in help and see what I can find on legacy support.

Debbie,

I'm complaining about the absence of a blank line immediately above the
heading, not below. I used to have one there, with 7.0, and don't, with 7.1.
And, without a blank line above the heading, I think it's rather confusing
to tell where one track listing end and the next heading begins, while
quickly reading through the list, with the arrow keys.

Dana, and now tell me again how you are navigating this?
If I press H (or 3 when I get down to them) for a heading and then arrow
down I get the same thing in Jaws 7.0 and Jaws 7.1.
i get for example
Barenaked Ladies - All Their Greatest Hits 1991-2001
Then if I arrow down I get
1. The Old Apartment
I don't get a blank line.

I'm not quite sure how it appears to a sighted visitor. That's something
I'll investigate the next time I have some sighted assistance, to go over
it
with me. But, in general, I would like my pages to be useful, and easily
readable, by any visitor, whether blind or sighted, and, as a matter of my
own pride in workmanship, I'd like to be sure I know how to so design
them.

Ah, I get it. I'll go to the page just to look, anyway, but your
description explains it well. I have only one memory to draw on of a
similar page navigation situation where lack of blank spaces the way
you're
describing confused me so much that I dropped my subscription to a
particular online journal, because the table of contents for each issue
didn't leave blank lines between the article titles and their subheads
and
or authors' names, and however hard I tried to keep clearly in mind the
sequence, so I could figure out which article was rotten by which of the
issues several writers, I kept getting confused because the items weren't
separated by blank lines from each other.

But I'll admit, I wasn't navigating then in terms of headings, just
arrowing
down through the table of contents. Even now, were I to return to that
page, I don't think I'd be using headings for going through the list.
But
what counts here is the mess it can make of a list such as the one you're
describing to not have blank lines separating the listed items clearly
from
each other.

Hope you have some success fixing this. By the way, since you say it's
essentially your own Web page, is it that you want to change the Jaws
behavior so that you can tell other Jaws users how to do it? Do you also
hope to host many sighted visitors, and do you think that the list looks
that way to them, just a mush of text without any breaks?

Yardbird,

Yes, I'm talking about html headings; sorry I misspoke.

As an example of what I'm concerned about, go to my online discography:
http://members.cox.net/dsleslie2/cds.shtml

There, you'll see that the track listing for each album is preceded by a
level 3 heading, giving the title of the album. But, between any such
heading and the track listing immediately above, there is no longer a
blank
line, as there used to be with 7.0. I find this a bit confusing, when
reading through the discography with the up and down arrows, and not just
jumping from heading to heading. I'd like to revert to the 7.0 behavior,
if
I can figure out how to do so.

P.S. to my first post I just sent. You say "header," and I thought you
meant "heading," which is a page design element. Do you actually mean
"header?" What's a header on a Web page? Or aren't you talking about
the
Web?

Genuinely confused, now.

Yes, Debbie. I think that's what I had in mind; I remember coming across
that text, before. But, I'm pretty sure I read it in one of the ins-F1
dialogues, for an option somewhere in Configuration Manager. But, at
least,
I can use the options in the ins-V dialogue, to experiment with them, to
see
their effects.

Any luck on discovering how I can get back the blank line that used to
appear above an HTML header?

Thanks.

Dana, I don't remember that being in configuration manager.
The jaws help says for example:
When reading a Web page with the Virtual Cursor, JAWS places each link
on
its own line, even if the document visually presents the link on a line
with
other text or additional links.
Tables. JAWS reads the cells in order from left to right and behaves
as
if
each table cell begins on a new line.
So jaws doesn't ever actually change the way the page is displayed
except
for the way it "interprets" and "stores" it in the virtual buffer.
Could you be thinking of documentation presentation? Screen layout
versus
simple layout? (insert V dialog).
Both 7.0 and 7.1 say JFWLite Home Page (heading 1) followed by Programs
Page.

I remember that, when I initially looked through the new Configuration
Manager, I found a section to control whether HTML links are each
displayed
on a separate line (as has always been the case, up until 7.1), and
whether
cells in a table are each displayed on a separate line. Now I want to
experiment with these settings, but I can't find my way back to them.
can
anyone give me directions?

Also, I don't remember seeing a control for this, but does anyone know
of
one: Previously, there was always a blank line above any header, in an
HTML
document. Now, in 7.1, headers follow immediately upon the previous
text,
with no blank line in-between. I'd like to restore the previous
behavior,
and regain those blank lines. does anyone know how to accomplish this?

Thanks.
