Yes. I have legacy internet support turned on all the time for a few reasons:
1. When navigating a few web pages like Freedom Scientific's, I do a shift plus h to move to the last heading. That brings me right to the jaws info. Then I press tab, but the first time, the heading is spoken. If I shift tab or tab and shift tab back and forth once I'm there, it doesn't do it. But It still adds a few seconds on to the time it takes me to do things.
2. On other sites, things don't have blank lines between them. I prefer to have blank lines because I often use the Control down arrow keys to jump around in small increments.
3. In MSN Hotmail, I used to be able to get right to the check boxes that selected emails to perform actions on by using the MoveToFirstField script. Now, with legacy support off, it won't do that. Instead, it takes me to the search edit field. Also, the first links used to be the new and delete links, which are somewhere berried in the middle of the page. With legacy support off, I must search for these links. Is it something to do with what jaws thinks the tab order of the page is?
Legacy support has solved all of these problems, for now. Until they fix it, I will keep using legacy support.

Yes! enabling legacy support causes JAWS 7.1 to display html tables as it did in 7.0, rather than as in 7.1 without legacy support. I was going to explore the Document Presentation options, to address this. But, now, I think I'm just going to rely on legacy support, until such time as I find an actual (not potential) problem with it.

I had previously read the warning that, with legacy support enabled, some web features might not work properly. But, as you suggested, I can't find any description of which features, etc. I rather suspect legacy support may resolve some other web behaviors (differences between 7.1 and 7.0) that are annoying me. I wasn't going to play with legacy support, because of the warnings. But, now, I think I may just go ahead and use it by default, until and unless I find a situation where it does create a problem (I haven't found any, as yet, and I've found this (and possibly other situations where it actually help.) Sounds reasonable?

Okay Dana, I think I can tell you how to get it back.
But I have heard this isn't a good idea to do on a permanent basis.
Please don't ask me to explain why because nobody ever really explains it,
they just say it's not a good idea, smile.
But...with that said.
Go to configuration manager in IE and go to the HTML options, misc. page.
Check the checkbox for use legacy support.
Save your changes, y ou might need to restart jaws.
See if that gives you the blank line back. It seemed to for me.
I will dig around in help and see what I can find on legacy support.

I'm complaining about the absence of a blank line immediately above the
heading, not below. I used to have one there, with 7.0, and don't, with 7.1.

Ah, I get it. I'll go to the page just to look, anyway, but your
description explains it well. I have only one memory to draw on of a
similar page navigation situation where lack of blank spaces the way
you're
describing confused me so much that I dropped my subscription to a
particular online journal, because the table of contents for each issue
didn't leave blank lines between the article titles and their subheads
and
or authors' names, and however hard I tried to keep clearly in mind the
sequence, so I could figure out which article was rotten by which of the
issues several writers, I kept getting confused because the items weren't
separated by blank lines from each other.
But I'll admit, I wasn't navigating then in terms of headings, just
arrowing
down through the table of contents. Even now, were I to return to that
page, I don't think I'd be using headings for going through the list.

As an example of what I'm concerned about, go to my online discography:

level 3 heading, giving the title of the album. But, between any such
heading and the track listing immediately above, there is no longer a
blank
line, as there used to be with 7.0. I find this a bit confusing, when

jumping from heading to heading. I'd like to revert to the 7.0 behavior,

I can figure out how to do so.

The jaws help says for example:
When reading a Web page with the Virtual Cursor, JAWS places each link

its own line, even if the document visually presents the link on a line

Tables. JAWS reads the cells in order from left to right and behaves

So jaws doesn't ever actually change the way the page is displayed

Could you be thinking of documentation presentation? Screen layout

simple layout? (insert V dialog).
