Hi Chip,
I use Eloquence with JAWS 9.0.
In technical terms: there are some vendors who chose not to enable a Core
Solo's second core. There is a setting under some Intel Core Duo II
processors that allows one to turn off the second core to conserve power.
Some Pentium III chips were somewhat dual core CPU's except that
mlfunctioned core was severed from the main functioning core.
If the CPU is branded as Core Solo, then there is no way of enabling the
second core. Under some Core Duo II chips like T5500 or T7200, there is a
way to enable or disable the second core - well, it depends on whether it
can be done under BIOS or the manufacturer of the computer in question has
decided to not implement this capability.
Cheers,
Joseph P.S. This was the one that I've used for demonstrations on my Vista
podcasts.

Hi Joseph,

do you use synthetic speech generated by the pc? I think the answer to this
question makes a large difference as to how much processor and memory one
needs in order to feel comfortible with the response time.

Also, as a matter of curiousity, why disable one core? Can it be re-enabled
at times?

thanks.
