I quite liked vista. You can still set shortcuts for stuff and you can start
typing the name of the program you want in the little edit box in the start
menu and it normally brings up the list of programs straight away so you can
just go up and down and press enter when you want. The same applies to
windows 7, but that's a different topic for a different day.

i would not get vista. it takes short cut keystrokes away. neither would i
switch to word 2007 because of the ribbons.
