the check box for quick tabs is checked. However, CTRL Q does nothing when
pressing it. CTRL shift Q does work however for me.

Subject: Using quick key in IE-Re: SHORTCUT KEY FOR QUICK TAB SELECTION IN
IE

to use the quick key tab feature in IE 8:
1. While on a web page with various tabs opened in the same group, Under the

IE 8 tools menue do an alt key plus letter T TO OPEN THE TOOLS MENU, then
the letter O for options,
2. this brings up a dialogue box, in the dialogue box for general settings,
you need to go to the button for "tab browsing settings" and hit the space
bar to go into the dialogue box for the various settings,
3. (note in this dialogue box, there is a check box to turn tab browsing on
and off as well as a number of other features)
4. be sure the check box for "quick tabs" is checked
If you do not, then the control key plus letter Q command to get a list of
the open web sites in the particular tab you are in, does not work.

As I noted in a previous post, I like using the tab feature when looking at
a group of web sites that allow me to easily compare things from each web
page, especially in looking for travel items for example.
The tab browsing settings has a number of controls that can you understand a

little more what tab browing is all about.
just noting what works for me and this may not be others "cup of tea" in
dealing with IE and controling how many windows are open at a time.
