I think this has happened once in 11 years, and I really don't expect to
have to do it regularly.

Ted,

I guess I should sign off on this by saying that I have chosen instead
to
not take that thing seriously. I mean the update thing on the Jaws Help
menu. What's it good for, anyway? If I forget how many SMA's I've got
left,
I'll just go again to the FS site and look at the page there. You know,
it's
fine to say that you don't mind following yellow brick roads and such,
but
the one thing I dislike more than nearly all my actual technical or
operational problems with Jaws and other applications is the effort it
takes, for me, to become "computer savvy" in a way that doesn't always
mean,
as you'd imagine, learning how things work, but learning a skill of
being
able to infer what instructions and labeling on things mean even if
they're
literally nonsensical or misleading. That's the part that, for me, may
as
well be so-called rocket science. It's a waste of time and energy, so
far as
I'm concerned, having to approach the labeling that ought to be helping
you
as if it were itself a puzzle. Others enjoy the mental exercise of
figuring
out what was really meant, but I don't. If I want to learn another
foreign
language, I'll go learn a foreign language.

Well, peace, my brothers. Let not one cranky mind disturb the placid
waters
of the Sea of Jaws.

It was just a case of following the yellow brick road. The guys at FS
knew about the glitch, but hoped they had it fixed; they didn't.
Nonetheless, all I had to do was go online and select that particular
help function. A couple of keystrokes later I was flyin' home, and when
I rechecked my count, it had been reset. That's about all she wrote.

Ted,
You shouldn't have to think about it at all. I say this with a smile.
Okay,
end of thread for me.

I don't think it trashes a key, but may be wrong. The whole process
took a matter of seconds, once I was connected.

I haven't done it yet, Bruce, but I'll bet it's like the similar thing
you
do at the FS site to just look at your update and SMA status. You have
to
start out by seemingly beginning a sequence that seems as if it will
have
you unnecewwarily re-initiating your program, but then provides a detour
for
those who just want to check their status. It's FS's way of keeping life

exciting. Or just awkward system design. One of those.

But doesn't this cost you an authorization key? It's not a big deal if
it does, since getting new keys is so simple.
