It's not that complex, folks. This is not rocket science. All this does is update your authorization count. When I updated to the latest JAWS build last week and after doing so, my upgrades remaining was 0. Then I did the update authorization which is essentially performing the activation process again, but this time, the only thing changed is your upgrade count. After updating my authorization, my upgrade remaining went to one. and I didn't even lose a key in the process.

You have to start out by seemingly beginning a sequence that seems as if it will have you unnecewwarily re-initiating your program, but then provides a detour for those who just want to check their status.
