Re: Uninstalling internet explorer

Hi. If you read the info on the microsoft web site concerning removing internet explorer, you will find that you can not remove internet explorer. the only thing that happens if you use add/remove , is you remove the shortcuts on the startmenu, it does not remove the actual program. if you want to actually reinstall ie, you must use a much more complex method.
I would suggest that you do a search using google on how to reinstall internet explorer. there are at least 4 different methods that most people talk about. one involves editing the registery and setting a value to zero which tells windows that i e is uninstalled which will allow you to reinstall it.
Here is 2 other ways to hopefully fix internet explorer that I have tried. I must say up front however, that even though both of these methods did in fact reinstall internet explorer, neither fixed the problem my wife is having.
I now think it is a jaws related problem.

Repair Internet Explorer 6

A number of XP users have reported situations with Internet Explorer 6 becoming corrupted and reporting a number of different errors. While there is certainly

no guarantee, the two procedures listed below have restored functionality to IE6 for many users experiencing problems.

Note: Both methods listed require that the

Microsoft

Windows

XP CD-ROM be available.

Method 1: Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x Repair for Windows XP

list of 5 items

. From the Start menu, select Run.

. In the Open field, type sfc /scannow (Note: There is a space between sfc and /scannow)

. Select the OK button.

. Follow the prompts throughout the System File Checker process.

. Reboot the computer when System File Checker completes.

list end

Method 2: Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x Repair for Windows XP

list of 9 items

. From the Start menu, select Search, select All Files and Folders.

. Select More Advanced Options and place a checkmark beside Search Hidden Files and Folders option.

. Ensure that Search System Folders and Search Subfolders are also checked.

. In the All or Part of the File Name box, type ie.inf

. In the Look In drop-down menu, select C: or the letter of the hard drive that contains the Windows folder.

. Click the Search button.

. In the search results pane, find the ie.inf file located in Windows\Inf folder.

. Right click the ie.inf file and click Install on the context menu.

. Reboot the

computer

when the file copy process is complete.

list end

hi,

as maybe you know, internet explorer is part of windows XP component, therefore the way to remove it is difference then add or
remove a single program. to remove internet explorer, please do the following steps

1. go to control panel/add or remove programs and hit enter.

2. press shift+tab until you hear "change or remove programs: button", actually this is a listbox of 4 items, now you arrow down to
the third items that is "add/remove windows components: button" and hit spacebar.

3. after a short moment, a list of windows components will pop-up. use arrow key to navigate those items and you will see internet
explorer is in that list.

4. as i mention above internet explorer is part of windows XP, so, by default it is selected. press spacebar to unselect it. please
note, jaws will not announce whether it is selected or not.

5. press tab to next button and hit spacebar. just follow all on screen instruction.

Subject: Uninstalling internet explorer

Hi list, I have not been able to use IE with jaws for quite some time. Jaws crashes when I open IE and outlook express. After many trryels I have decided to uninstall and then reinstall it on My machine. But I don't find IE in the list of programs in add/ remove programs to uninstall it.

Please suggest some ways to correct the problem so that I'm able to use
IE again. For your information I have windows XP PRO with jaws 7.

Looking forward to your response,

With best regards,
