Hello Daniel. One of the reasons to have jaws running as a service is so Jaws for Windows will speak at the logon screen. Suppose you have multiple users using a single machine jaws should be running at the logon screen when one user logs off and another user logs on. This is what happens when you have jaws start automatically. This is also the reason that some people want to start jaws as a service when Jaws needs to be restarted. Jaws will not speak at the logon screen if you start jaws is a normal program. I hope this helps. -----Original Message----- From: jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Yardbird Sent: Tuesday, June 26, 2007 3:43 PM To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: Tip of the Day: Manually Starting JAWS As a Service Okay, I went to the link below and boned up on the instructions. But what I didn't learn even there was this: I don't understand what "running as a service" means,, I'm afraid. I thought it was just a fancy way to say "loads automatically on startup," and I thought that was simply a convenience feature to save you the trouble of having to launch Jaws after waiting until you're sure Windows has properly booted up. So, I'll bet there's something about running an application as a service that I am completely ignorant of. Now that I've pinned down where I'm lacking knowledge, will someone please explain? Thanks. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ricque" <ricjustice@xxxxxxxxx> To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, June 26, 2007 11:57 AM Subject: Re: Tip of the Day: Manually Starting JAWS As a Service Hi Chris, I believe this is up on www.jaws-users.com Richard Justice www.blind-computing.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "Christopher Hallsworth" <chrishallsworth@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>; "JAWS-Users" <jaws-users-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, June 26, 2007 2:41 PM Subject: Tip of the Day: Manually Starting JAWS As a Service > Hi all, > I've recently discovered that there is a way to manually start JAWS as a > service using the JAWS shortcut placed on the desktop once JAWS is > installed.
