I have never in my life used an abbreviation while writing. I paid a good
deal of money to various institutions to teach me how to write and how to
speak. I always use an in conversational English and never since fifth
grade have I ended a sentence with a preposition. So just because most
people haven't the grace or inclination to speak or to write correctly this
does not justify such. I think we should, however, excuse those who haven't
the education or the ability to write well because of some sort of handicap.
No one knows exactly why people write or speak badly so allowances should be
made for those people. None of us should judge others. But to excuse bad
writing or speaking because most do it is reprehensible in my opinion.
