Symantec's security check

I'm using JAWS 5.10 and Windows XP Home and I'm wondering about doing a virus
scan using symantec's security check. How does it function with JAWS? Do I
need to shut my present antivirus program, AVG free edition, down when I do the
scan?
Any way that you can advise me will be appreciated.
