That's fine on your PC, but what about on another PC that others are using
as well. Do you really want to install this utility and configure it on
every PC you are going to use? I think the original post has merit and it
would be a good addition to Jaws.

Hi,
No need to bother FS with this one.

Do a Google search for a program called Quickmixin. It's a little freeware
utility that lets you save and restore sound mixer settings.

When you run the program, it allows you to select which settings to save,
e.g. playback and/or record volumes, select which mixer device this applies
to if you have more than one, then save these settings to a file which is
placed in your My Documents folder by default.

After you've saved the settings file, you can set up a shortcut to this file
on your desktop, place the shortcut in your startup group if you want to,
and assign a hotkey to restore those settings on the fly. It works like a
champ.

To test it, I went into my volume control and muted everything. After
pressing the hotkey which I'd assigned to this shortcut, ctrl+alt+q, all
sounds were back to normal and I could hear speech again.

To further test it, I placed this shortcut in my startup group, then went
back into the volume control and muted everything. I then rebooted the
computer and the first sound I heard was the sound that Skype makes when it
puts me online. Then I got the "Jaws for Windows is ready" message and I
knew that everything was as it should be.

So if you have a problem where something or someone resets your sound
settings without your permission, Quickmixin is just the ticket for solving
the problem. I just downloaded and installed it. It's a keeper for sure.

Tom
