Vicki,With Spybot you really don't need to tell it how many files to scan. It has a built-in database of over 51,000 things that it is searching for. While you are running a scan it tells you its progress on the Status Bar (JAWS Key+NUMPAD 3). It is scanning to find things on your computer that shouldn't be there, that's all. If you want to keep something it finds you have the option of doing that by unchecking the item before "clicking" the Fix Selected Problems button. Also, don't forget to use the Immunize feature if you want to prevent reinfection by the same spyware. I've found that it doesn't immunize for all of the things that it can scan for, but I have been using it and nothing else (not Ad Aware or the like) for probably 2 yrs now and I never have the problems I see on other people's computers. I have certainly tried AdAware, but it seemed to be looking for far more things that just Spyware. The things that it finds are things that Windows gives us the ability to delete on our own as we desire. This is true of Cookies, which both SpyBot and AdAware find in vast numbers.Sue B.
