This question came up on both these lists, so I'm sending my findings to both, even though the solution isn't a script. A few of us would like to be alerted by a beep of some sort when we mistype or misspell. It is apparently theoretically possible to write a script to do this in Word if you know how to do it, which I don't. Fortunately, I have found two programs which offer this service, and one works especially well in my opinion, and is free. The one that works less well is As you Type from www.asutype.com. It costs $49.95 and has many capabilities. Its interface isn't particularly friendly but I was able to use it. The winner is Tinyspell, from http://www.megspace.com/computers/tinyspell/ It is free, though donations are welcome. Once installed and running, it beeps when you have typed a misspelled word. In any Windows program. At that point, you can hit the user-definable shortcut key, default control+semicolon, to bring up a list of suggestions in the form of a menu. The bottom item of the menu is Add to Dictionary. So far the program is perfect for my use. Two notes: It is not as sophisticated as Word's spell checker. So, for instance, if you fail to hit space between two words, Word will often be programmed to offer the two words as a spelling suggestion. Tinyspell won't. Also, if the suggested words menu stays on top of Eudora while it is in sponsored mode, you get a friendly message from Eudora, or at least I do wince I have DSL and Eudora can phone home often. I'm delighted with this discovery.
