Any of the spell checkers on the programs page will work fine, since they all
basically replace the French dictionary with an American English one. This is
an issue that MS has been aware of for years but has chosen not to address.

Thanks Gerald, So if there is no other fix like something somewhere on the
installation disk, would you have a recommendation about which of the spell
check links on the JAWS programs site is preferrable?
Will it replace or over-ride the French suggestions?
Thanks again, Mitch

To resolve this "French paradox", you will need to install a third-party
spell checker to replace the French dictionary with an English one. You can
download one of the free spell checkers listed under the Email and Related
Utilities heading of the JAWS Users programs page:
http://www.jaws-users.com/programs/

Hi, Just installed Word 2007 in combination with Outlook Express and the
latest JAWS 10.
The language combo box in the Outlook Express options list box shows
only French.
Is this a problem or is there a place to modify the choice to American
English?
Thanks, Mitch
