Alan & Cy:I purchased my Toshiba laptop from Staples for about 350 and it has a 10 key pad with the full size keyboard. I am not saying the keys are not closer together than a desktop keyboard, they are. The Toshiba I bought has Windows7 and is a 64 bit processor.

Alan, My HP Pavilion has a reasonably decent keyboard. It is a full keyboard andthe keys are separated far enough to be useable. I have also seen a Toshibafull keyboard which is also useable. I think you will have to get into the $500 to $600 range in order to get alaptop which you can easily use. The 17 inch jobs seem to be alright but the little web books are just too blamed small. Come to think of it, I honestlybelieve that my HP Pavilion was classed as a netbook and not a laptop? Dear Cy, Speaking of Lap Top computers, I was in Staples the other day, purchasing some office supplies, and I was looking at the lap top computers.I really do not like the flat kind of keyboards they all seem to come with. I know I can purchase for as little as $30 a standard keyboard, and plug itin with a USB connection, but that seems ridiculous. Do you know of any lap tops that have a more standard, no, I know one will not come with a regular standard keyboard, but something at least a little closer to one than those lap top keyboards? I am looking for a Lap Top that the keys stick up a bit.The prices are indeed pretty good for a lap top, around $400 is a great buyin my book. That would be a good way for me to get into Windows 7 little by little, without having to stress! It is not at all unusual for a person to have a desktop and alaptop and even a netbook. I have a new HP laptop, an older Del laptop and an ancient HP desktop all of which I use. As things stand now I probably have owned my last desktop as the HP Pavilion has more hard disk and ram than the old desktop. I do have JAWS 11 on both laptops but the desktop still has JAWS 8 and it works for what I use it for. It does not seem possible that an open source screen reader could work with more applications than JAWS. And as far as FS's licensing procedure is concerned, most blind users are gratefuljust to have one computer, let alone three or four. Anyone who can affordto own multiple computers can also afford to pay FS's licensing fees. To me, it is hypocritical for someone who can afford to own more than one computer to criticize FS's pricing policies.Gerald ----- Original Message ----- From: "chris hallsworth"<christopherh40@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, December 21, 2010 7:05 AM Subject: Why I am not going to use JAWSHello all. I will publicly state why I am refusing to use JAWS. It is FreedomScientific's attitude towards pricing and their license schemes. Some of us can't or won't afford to buy JAWS, especially if the free one is just as good as JAWS. As for the license scheme, the user is punished to license JAWS on up to three machines. With the free and even other commercial screen readers one can install on as many computers as they have so long as one machine is used at a time, no questions asked. With JAWS, once all three authorizations have been used they would then have to request FS for more keys. Eventually and I will say eventually they will refuse flat and get paranoid about people sharing authorization keys. I understand piracy and all that and I certainly don't commit to any of that stuff however at the same time FS is just asking for money and not caring about the customer. True there is a dongle option, but even they can have their fair share of problems. Now for the technical,I do find the free one to be actually more stable and even works with moreapplications than JAWS. You may find this shocking but this is true according to my personal experience.Sorry for the rant but you did suggest I state publicly my reasons.
