It would be pretty awesome if one could have a computer that was just a featureless box case with WiFi, Bluetooth and adapter plug-ins the size of a laptop or smaller. That way one could use Bluetooth headphones and a Bluetooth keyboard anywhere with the laptop safely in the backpack or something... Also hardware would be so much cheaper and one wouldn't have to worry about screens breaking, delicate frames or anything like that falling apart and or costing a lot of money.

Thanks,

Brandon Keith

Hi,
I agree about the 17 inch laptop/notebooks.
However, my son has a 15 inch Toshiba notebook which also has the full
keyboard (numpad)
His keys are a little closer and flatter than I would like but all of the
keys are there.
FYI, I also use a wireless USB keyboard because I like to lean back and
relax when I type which is much harder if you are trying to balance a
laptop.

Alan, I have a 17" Toshiba laptop. I like the 17" laptops because they have the numpad , however I do still use an external keyboard mostly because I am so much more proficient typing with it. But I love the fact that I can grab
my laptop & run with it, without having to bring a mouse or keyboard.

?If I were you I will check the hp elite book models. I have the 12.1 inch

2530P. No complains here. The keyboard is flat, but is so well design that

you won't notice. The keys are big, so it is easy to type and everything. Also, the RAM, hard drive and the procesor compartments are very easy to
access. Only one or two screws under the machine. So it fairly easy to
upgrade components, if the need arises. For example, recently I decided to

double my RAM. I bought the RAM sticks and without any sighted assistance I unscrewed the RAM compartment, took out the old RAM sticks and installed

the new ones. So it is very user friendly as well.

Hope this helps,

Yadiel

Dear Cy,
Speaking of Lap Top computers, I was in Staples the other day, purchasing

some office supplies, and I was looking at the lap top computers.
I really do not like the flat kind of keyboards they all seem to come
with.
I know I can purchase for as little as $30 a standard keyboard, and plug
it in with a USB connection, but that seems ridiculous.
Do you know of any lap tops that have a more standard, no, I know one
will not come with a regular standard keyboard, but something at least a
little closer to one than those lap top keyboards?
I am looking for a Lap Top that the keys stick up a bit.

The prices are indeed pretty good for a lap top, around $400 is a great
buy in my book.
That would be a good way for me to get into Windows 7 little by little,
without having to stress!

Garth,
In today's environment the cost of a computer continues to shrink and
you
are correct. It is not at all unusual for a person to have a desktop and

a
laptop and even a netbook.
I have a new HP laptop, an older Del laptop and an ancient HP desktop
all of
which I use.
As things stand now I probably have owned my last desktop as the HP
Pavilion
has more hard disk and ram than the old desktop.
I do have JAWS 11 on both laptops but the desktop still has JAWS 8 and
it
works for what I use it for. (LOLLOL)

I could buy 3 or 4 computers for the cost of Jaws so I hardly think it
is
hypocritical.

To

Subject: Why I am not going to use JAWS

Hello all.
I will publicly state why I am refusing to use JAWS. It is Freedom
Scientific's attitude towards pricing and their license schemes. Some of

us
can't or won't afford to buy JAWS, especially if the free one is just as good as JAWS. As for the license scheme, the user is punished to license
JAWS on up to three machines. With the free and even other commercial
screen
readers one can install on as many computers as they have so long as one machine is used at a time, no questions asked. With JAWS, once all three
authorizations have been used they would then have to request FS for
more
keys. Eventually and I will say eventually they will refuse flat and get
paranoid about people sharing authorization keys. I understand piracy
and
all that and I certainly don't commit to any of that stuff however at
the
same time FS is just asking for money and not caring about the customer. True there is a dongle option, but even they can have their fair share
of
problems. Now for the technical,
I do find the free one to be actually more stable and even works with
more
applications than JAWS. You may find this shocking but this is true
according to my personal experience.
Sorry for the rant but you did suggest I state publicly my reasons. So
there you go.
Take care.
