hi Curmudgeon,

you may try to do this,

open outlook express, press ctrl+n to create a new mail, press alt+t for tools, press "r" for select recipients...

now you will experience a difference view of an address book.

Hi Curmudgeon,
Are you aware that, in the tools menu of Outlook Express when you have a new
message open, there's an actual menu option for doing this? The option is
called Select Recipients. Yes, it puts you in the Address Book addresses
list, but to refer to it as "going into the address book" and the like would
be wrong, because what appears when you choose this menu option is different
from just opening the address book, and includes specific tools and buttons
for the specific task of adding addressees to an email.

Just to complicate things further... <grin>

i was responding to white fangs comment that he could not use alt t alt c or alt b to add names to a email that alt t, brought up the tools menu

that meant he was in the address book directly
and not in a email
someone suggested that you could add name
to a email from the address book
non-contiguously
by holding down the control key and down arrowing
an then press the spacebar,
i thought if you did it that way all the names would be in the to field
and not where you want either in the cc or the bcc, field where i always put
them when sending a mass email
havn't tried it to see
so, hahaha
what i meant was,
if you want to
select non-contiguous email addresses
open a new email
then go to tools alt t press r to the address book
then as you down arrow your address book
you can add addresses to your email
alt t for the to field
then down arrow to another address
alt c, for the cc field
or alt b for bcc field
to select non-contiguous
email addresses

Hi,

What does this mean?

quote:
you have to be in the address book from a new email notjustin the address

I'm an OE user and pretty experienced with the program, but I don't
understand what this means. Can you say it differently? Thanks a lot.

Hi List:

When I am in the addressbook, pressing alt+b on a name does not do anything
for me. Pressing alt+t on a name just bring's up the tools menu. Also, how
do I get out of the addressbook after I have selected the list of names I
want and pressing alt+b? I just close it with alt+f4 or Is this correct or
should I be doing something else?

Please tell me what I'm doing wrong!

another way,
is when you are in the message and then go to the address book from the
tools menu
is,
as you down arrow thru the list of addresses you want to add to be
mailed
to

alt t, for the to field
alt c, for the cc field,
alt b, for the bcc field
a separator will automatically be put between the email addresses

thanks for the step by step, Marvin. I know the menus you're referring
to,
but had never thought about how one would do this from within the Address
book. To be honest, when I send one email to a number of people, I just
type them into the To field from memory. that doesn't require me to type
their actual email addresses, lest you think that I'm performing some
prodigious feat of memory. They're all in my address book, and I have
auto-complete enabled, so all that's necessary is for me to think of whom
I
want to include, type one or two letters from their listing in the
address
book, and after their address completes itself, type a semicolon as the
separator and do the same for the next person on my mental list.

That said, it's nice to know this can be done as you describe. I want to
add one comment

It would be helpful to many on this list, I think, to mention that the
method you explain for selecting noncontiguous listings is the same
standard
Windows keyboard method one uses form the keyboard in a files list such
as
Windows Explorer or My Computer. I hope that is interesting and helpful
to
some who didn't know this.

The way I do it is as follows:

1. Create a new message.
2. Press alt-t and then r to call up the address book.
3. Tab to the address list.
4. Use the down arrow key to highlight the first desired address.
5. Hold the control key down and press the space bar twice to select the
first desired address. I don't know why you have to hit the space bar
twice
to select the first address, I just know that it has to be done.
6. While continuing to hold down the control key, release the space bar,
and use the arrow keys to highlight the next desired address. Use the
space
bar to select the next desired address. Hit the space bar only once for
each address, hitting the space bar the second time will unselect the
address. Continue with other addresses if desired.
7. When all desired addresses have been selected, release the control
key
and tab to the "to" box. Press the space bar . Tab to the list box and
you
may review the selected addresses.
8. Tab to the "ok" box and press the space bar.
9. Complete the rest of the email in the normal fashion.

Good luck.

Marvin

And then do you use the Tool/Actions menu to open a new message with
these
addresses in the To field? Is that the second part of the procedure?
Thanks.

Yes, it is: while on the first selection, press and hold the Control key
down. Then navigate through the list with arrow keys and select the
items
you want by pressing the Space bar. Finally, press the Applications key
and
choose the appropriate option.
