Oh. I see. I didn't make the connection, because I tried Word Web for a
while and then forgot about it, so I forgot its key commands, too. Thanks.

No. In the Webster's Unabridged. Control shift D works like alt control
W with a highlighted word in Word Web.

Oh, I think I get it. You make an end run (workaround) to get past the
Jaws-unfriendly nature of the American Heritage by typing the word not
into
an edit field in the program, but in a Word doc, then give the command
to
look it up? Clever.

That's interesting, or fun, but it isn't the way I'd be using the
dictionary, unfortunately. Nice trick, though. Most of what I use Word
for
is my own writing, and if I didn't know what a word was when I wrote
it...
well, never mind. But that's a nice feature.

After the weekend's discussion, I found out it can be used with a hot
key to look up a highlighted word in Word.

Hi Yardbird,

I know where you are coming from. This is why I am considering the
Random house dictionary. I am trying to find a local reseller for it.

Pranav,

thank you very much for your thoughtful responses and your generous
help,
but I'm afraid I'd much prefer investing in an application that
either is
Jaws friendly at the PC cursor level right out of the box, or for
which
someone has written scripts. I'm not comfortable customizing and
navigating
in the way you describe. But I do thank you very much for your
explanations.

Hi Yardbird,

I will give the steps which I used to optimise the American Heritage
dictionary. I am using the Jaws six .two. However, I don't think that
the Jaws version makes any difference to the steps.

1. Type a
word that you what defined.

2. Press enter to bring up the definition of the word.

3. Move using the Jaws cursor to the top of the definition window.
Restrict the Jaws cursor to that window.

4. Now define a frame around the current window using the
ctrl+shift+[+[ key combination. Set the frame to read when you hit a
hot key.

5. Now, when ever you type the word to be defined, you'll be able to
read the definition of the word using the hot key. You may also want
to set up a prompt for the edit box where you type the word to be
defined.
Note:
the Tab key is not useful in this dictionary . Every menu option such
as the dictionary and thesaurus are contained in their own window.
You may want to define hot keys that click on these options. I do not
know how to do this.

I hope this helps
Pranav
