john, when i said quicken i was just getting the topic to script that companies program i use quicken home and business and quick books also From: jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of John Martyn Sent: Tuesday, May 03, 2011 00:25 To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: Scripting quicken and quickbooks It's funny you should say that. I know of a guy in my complex that works for kick start. He actually mentioned something about this on a future project. I don't know if that is someone trying to tell me something, or just a coincidence. Either way, I should look into that with this guy. Just to make sure there aren't some programs set up for this type of thing, I have quite a few contacts in several blind organizations that would let me know what they can do. Kick start sounds great because not only will it purchase the software, but fund a little for my time. I will be more inclined to take the big project because I will be off for 4 months before I return to school. This is enough time to finish the project with my current experience in scripting. To be frank, I actually am more interested in the quickbooks program as opposed to quicken since quickbooks is more widely used. Quickbooks isn't going to be for the faint of heart since it is a monster program and does so much. I would want to unlock as much as possible. Should we hold a vote for this at a set time? I think that would be fair in some aspects; however, popularity isn't always the smartest when trying to advance the blind community. I haven't seen a Quicken package for several years, but the look of it was similar to QuickBooks, just not as powerful. As for funding, I know of a site called kickstarter.com where they have fundraising for projects. You seem to apply for the project and if they deem it appropriate, they post it for a set amount and period of time. Then, people can donate during that time and if the project reaches its amount and is funded, they charge the cards. You might check into this site and maybe those of us who are in need of your help could help fund the project and see what happens. Can't remember much about it though. Do these programs work hand in hand or is it one or the other? I would need to get the programs as I do not have them. Perhaps we can get these programs funded by one of the blind organizations. My wife offered to help me with this because I'm sure there are a lot of visual elements to this. She said she would learn quickbooks if this is what we are all interested in. We're not all decided yet, but considering that there isn't a choice for financial and business run programs it definately puts this into an important category. One thing to note is that these programs change quite frequently. I am wondering about other scripters if they want to work with a joint effort on this and make the source open because of the frequent changes made to this program. I can't just hide the source on this one because that would be unfair. On another note, it makes it much harder to coordinate work efforts and multiple sources could impact its future use. Does quickbooks come with some element of financial management like quicken? Is there one program that focuses more on what we want? John Martyn _____ No virus found in this message.
