I think the person wanted to know about the literal repair function.  I'd 
guess that If a file somewhere in Jaws is corrupted, there's a much smaller 
chance of that being one of the files associated with your personal settings 
(the object of the merge function) than with various program files.  So to 
just merge files would seem a poor substitute for the diagnostic and 
restorative capabilities of the actual Repair function.  Two different 
things.

Depending on just what needs to be repaired one can simply run the Jaws 
merge again.
