Daniel, My problem with the Read Only Edit thing is that recent versions of JAWS say it when it is not appropriate. One example of it happening here when I first installed 6.0 was in Outlook Express when you do a Control-Shift-F for the Advanced Find. I was able to get rid of the "Read Only Edit," so I can't give you the exact order here with my Win 98 se machine, but JAWS 6.0 was saying Received After Read Only Edit when you hit Control-Shift-F and in other places in the resulting message list. I was not a happy camper to discover that it's is doing it on my brand new XP machine. I don't have access to the new machine at the moment, but I can check the exact wording if you aren't experiencing it and are still curious. FS doesn't have an answer for the Received After bit which JAWS seems to be picking up from where you can select a date range and it has supposedly been passed along to their escalation team. Someone from FS did call me about it and he heard the "Received After" for himself, but that was weeks ago and I haven't heard anything more since then. I have not downloaded 6.1 since I'm waiting for the promised changes. It certainly saves me the problem of bothering to try entering text in such a box, so that instead of wasting my time, I move on through the tab, or menu, or whatever, and find someplace where I *am* supposed to enter something. How come everyone's so annoyed with this message (apart from the comment I made about the wording being absurd, that is)? thanks. form methe ----- Original Message ----- From: "curmudgeon" <one2three4five6@xxxxxxxxxxx> To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, April 12, 2005 4:16 AM Subject: Re: Tutor messages? to kill jaws saying, read only edit in dialog boxes or where ever it shows its ugly head here is what you can do part of my configuration settings, JAWS CONFIGURATION MANAGER 1open up jaws configuration manager, insert f2 2down arrow, to enter on configuration manager 3press, control shift d, delta, for the default configuration manager note: spacebar to check a check box, or up or down arrow to change a radio button if you want to know what any particular button does or check box press inserrt f1 for help, escape to get out of help press alt s, press the letter, m, for speech and sounds manager tab twice, enter on, Edit Current Scheme button press control tab, to control type page press the letter r, twice to read only edit tab once, and down arrow to ignore tab to the ok button and press enter tab once, to save current scheme button and press enter tab to the ok button and press enter press, control s, to save the settings close the jaws configuration manager alt f4, turn jaws off, insert f4, turn jaws on, control alt j, and u b done! ----- Original Message ----- From: "rich hamel" <rcham27@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, April 11, 2005 6:10 PM Subject: Re: Tutor messages? I tried this and it did not work. My problem may not be with "tutor" messages. The first time I open a message in my e mail, I hear JAWS say "read only edit". This usually occurs when there is a blank space somewhere. The second time I read the message, I do not hear JAWS say its thing. Thanks for the input. Rich ----- Original Message ----- From: "John O.
