Question: RSS reader - stand alone or on the web?

Hi there,
I was wondering if there are any stand alone or browser-based RSS readers that
are nice? I do not use Internet Explorer and have no intention of doing so; I
use Firefox.
I want a newsreader that is able to alert me of incoming news, either with a
sound, a new dialog, or perhaps a message box. All three of these will be fine.
Any ideas?
