Jim,

I asked the same question when someone said here on the list that that's 
what the instructions for the install would look like.  No, it's just an 
idiosyncratic thing that I haven't heard a reason for, even on the Grisoft 
site where they have instructions for the download and installation.  So, 
just do what they say, and it'll work.  I have no idea how it's treating the 
earlier version when you do this.  I haven't looked in my AVG folder to see 
if I can figure out if any part of the old one is there, or if it's just 
been overwritten.  I think it's been overwritten, though, as the download is 
a full size sort of deal, not like a patch-style update.  So don't worry, 
just use the Repair option even though you know you aren't really repairing 
anything.    It will work.
