Kevin,

Are you looking to categorize the text data? I know both SPSS and SAS
have programs have application that do that, but I don't know how well
either works with JAWS. The SPSS produce is call "Text Analysis for
Surveys". You might be able to get a trial version at spss.com that you
could try with JAWS.

Karen,

I appreciate your response but I have been told that there are major
differences between Qualitative and Quantitative programs and a
qualitative data analysis program is required for the class the student
is taking. This is area new to me but Atlas.ti is the preferred
program.

Anyone else ever use this with JAWS? Or maybe NVivo, HyperResearch
and MAXqda?

Kevin

I'm not sure why they are using the term "qualitative data" as they are.
Quantitative data is that which has an infinite number of possible
responses, i.e. points on a number line. Qualitative data is that which
has a limited number of responses such as yes-no responses or points on
an ordinal scale i.e. rate from 1-10. SAS and SPSS analyze both
quantitative and qualitative data. All of my students, both graduate and
undergraduate use either SAS or SPSS for all statistics and experimental
psychology classes I teach. At this point, it is unclear as to the type
of analysis you wish to do.

Good luck,

Karen

My understanding is that SAS is a Quantitative software package.
I am looking for qualitative data analysis accessibility. I pulled the
following from a Web site:

You've probably heard of software packages such as SPSS, SAS and
MiniTab that are used for analyzing quantitative data. But, what do we
do when our data consists of hundreds of pages of text and images?
Researchers can choose to use qualitative data analysis software such as
NVivo, Atlas.ti, HyperResearch and MAXqda.

Anyone have any experience with NVivo, Atlas.ti, HyperResearch,
or MAXqda with JAWS?

        Kevin,

I've not used the program you are asking about but I can tell
you that SAS works fine with Jaws. I went all the way through the Ph.D.
program at the University of Oklahoma using it with no problems. It will
do absolutely anything and SAS provided me with all the documentation --
volumes and volumes -- in accessible format.

        HOpe this helps a bit,

        Karen

I am working with a student who is using Jaws and she
wants to use a Qualitative Data Analysis Program such as Atlas.ti. Does
anyone know whether Atlas.ti or a similar program works with JAWS?

                Thank you in advance,
