Potential reason for sluggishness?

This is just a shot in the dark as I'm not a tech person. but I've noticed
some say Jaws is sluggish, some not. Some saying manually setting the
settings is better rather than merge as it is faster. I had noticed a lack
of finding a certain file to edit, eudora.jss, and it could not be found in
the Jaws 6.0 anywhere and only showed up from a disk wide search in 5.1. Is
it possible jaws 6 will not copy such files to it's own directory, but
rather searches outside itself in 5.1 to find the settings and use them?
creating the sluggishness?
